If my doctor orders a GEMMA panel, do I still need standard evaluations?
GEMMA testing enhances and improves standard evaluations. It doesn’t replace it.
Do GEMMA panels take the place of other functional tests?
GEMMA offer unique and exceptional information not found in other functional tests like urinary neurotransmitters, stool microbiome testing or saliva cortisol. Not just information, GEMMA offers insight, interpretation and treatment recommendations for your care provider.
Other functional tests offer insights not found in GEMMA evaluations because they are using a different approach to evaluate your health. Your healthcare provider may choose to order both sets of tests if they feel it gives them the information they are looking for.
Can I order GEMMA tests myself?
GEMMA is a professional testing service. Work with your healthcare provider to get the most out of GEMMA. Or, find a practitioner who already works with GEMMA testing.
I don’t have any symptoms. Why did my doctor order a GEMMA test?
GEMMA offers insights that help you stay healthy. It can also pick up early changes in your body you cannot feel but may lead to serious conditions in the future. Here are some examples:
- Prediction. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, the GEMMA Allergic Tendency Panel can be ordered a month before allergy season and see if your body is heading towards allergies or not. If so, this can be managed before symptoms start.
- Prevention: if you have a family history of certain conditions, GEMMA can help your doctor keep an eye on root cause imbalances that occur years or decades before the disease is noticed. A good example is the Alzheimer’s Tendency panel.
- Hidden imbalances: Inflammation is related to hundreds of conditions. The Inflammation Tendency panel can be used to detect and balance low-grade inflammation which doesn’t have any symptoms but can make many symptoms worse.
- Screening: GEMMA has screening panels. They use simple, inexpensive blood tests that don’t require fasting, so you can go to the lab anytime its convenient for you. Screening tests can give your doctor a quick indication of how well treatments are working or if there is early evidence of relapse. If so, your doctor can order more complete blood tests to get the full picture. Some of our screening panels include Allergies, Anxiety, Depression, Migraines, and Thyroid. Ask your healthcare provider when these screening tests might be appropriate.
Are GEMMA tests covered by insurance?
Some or all of the blood tests your healthcare professional orders are eligible to be covered by insurance. GEMMA is a supplementary evaluation of your blood test results. Currently they are not covered by insurance.
